Breast implant removal
Breast implant removal, also known as explantation, is a surgical procedure in which breast implants are removed from the breast. There are various reasons why someone might choose to have their breast implants removed, including:
- Health concerns: Some patients may experience health issues or complications related to their breast implants such as rupture or infection.
- Change in preferences: Personal preferences and aesthetic ideals can change over time and some patients may decide that they no longer want breast implants.
- Capsular Contracture: This is a complication that can occur when the scar tissue (capsule) that naturally forms around the implant becomes tight and contracts, causing discomfort and distortion of the breast shape.
The breast implant removal procedure usually involves a general anaesthetic and will need an incision to remove the implant. Some patients may choose to have new implants inserted and other may choose to combine explantation with an uplift depending on their goals.
