Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
Fat transfer breast augmentation uses your own body fat, harvested by liposuction, to naturally enhance breast volume and improve shape — with no implants required.
Understanding Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Surgery
Fat transfer breast augmentation, also known as autologous fat grafting, uses your own body fat to enhance breast size and shape. Fat is removed from an area of your body where it is unwanted — such as the abdomen, thighs or flanks — processed, and then precisely injected into the breasts to add volume and improve contour.
The procedure is ideal for patients seeking a modest, natural-looking enhancement without the use of synthetic implants. Because the tissue used is your own, there is no risk of implant-related complications, and results feel completely natural.
Fat transfer typically achieves a one-half to one cup size increase in volume. It is not suitable for patients seeking a significant increase in size or those without sufficient donor fat available.

Typical Reasons Women Choose Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
Fat transfer to the breasts may be suitable for patients seeking a modest, natural-looking breast enhancement who have sufficient donor fat available from another area of the body.
The Benefits of Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Surgery
Fat transfer provides a natural, implant-free approach to subtle breast enhancement while simultaneously improving the contour of the donor area.
Your Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Procedure
Fat transfer breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Fat is harvested from the donor site or sites — usually the abdomen or hips — using liposuction.
The harvested fat is then processed and purified before being carefully injected into multiple layers of the breast tissue using fine cannulas. Both the donor site and the breasts are treated during the same surgical session.

Recovery & Aftercare
Recovery following fat transfer involves both the breast and liposuction donor sites. Swelling and bruising are expected at both sites and typically resolve over several weeks. Wearing supportive garments at the donor site during the early recovery period can help.
Exercise should be avoided for two weeks after surgery. Some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed by the body in the weeks following surgery — this is normal and is accounted for in the surgical planning. Your surgeon will see you at three months to assess your results and discuss any further procedures if needed.

Risks & Considerations
As with all procedures, fat transfer carries potential risks including infection, asymmetry, fat reabsorption, oil cysts and calcification. There is also a risk associated with the liposuction element of the procedure.
All relevant risks will be discussed in detail at consultation. Fat transfer is not recommended as a primary procedure for patients with a significant personal or family history of breast cancer without specialist advice.

Common Questions
Fat transfer typically achieves a modest increase of approximately one-half to one cup size. It is not suitable for patients seeking a significant increase in breast volume.
Once the transferred fat has established a blood supply, it behaves like any other fat in the body. Results are long-lasting, although weight changes and ageing can affect the breast over time. Some degree of fat reabsorption occurs in the initial months following surgery.
A proportion of transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed by the body in the weeks following surgery. This is normal and is planned for during surgery. The remaining established fat provides lasting volume.
The donor site will also benefit from the procedure, and you will notice improved contour there as swelling resolves. Bruising and swelling at the donor site are expected and typically resolve over several weeks.
In some cases fat transfer can be used alongside implants to improve contour or address specific areas. We can advise whether this is appropriate for your goals.
You should discuss any personal or family history of breast cancer during your consultation. Fat transfer may affect breast tissue on imaging and specialist advice may be recommended.
Yes. You will be required to wear a compression garment at the liposuction donor site for several weeks after surgery to support healing and optimise results.
Patients need sufficient donor fat available for the procedure to be viable. Suitability will be assessed during your consultation.
