Breast Enlargement Operation
Breast enlargement, also known as breast augmentation or augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. Here's an overview of the breast enlargement operation:
Before the surgery, you will have a consultation with a surgeon. During this consultation, you will discuss your goals, medical history, and the various aspects of the procedure.
The surgeon will assess your overall health, discuss potential risks or complications, and determine whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. You will discuss the type of implants (saline or silicone), size and shape that best match your goals and body proportions. The surgeon may perform measurements and use sizers to help you visualize the potential outcome and make informed decisions about implant size. In preparation for surgery, pre-operative tests may be conducted to ensure you are in good health for the surgery.
The surgical procedure is typically performed under general anaesthesia, ensuring you are asleep and comfortable throughout. The surgeon will make incisions in locations discussed during your consultation. Common incision sites include under the breast (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary). The implants can be placed either “above” (subglandular or subfascial) or “below” the chest muscle (dual plane or submuscular). The surgeon will discuss placement based on factors like your anatomy and the desired outcome. After placing the implants, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.
You will be given specific post-operative instructions, including information on caring for incisions, medications, and follow-up appointments. Recovery time varies, but most people can return to light activity after 2 weeks. Strenuous activities and heavy lifting may be restricted for 6 weeks.
