    What is a Breast Uplift?

A breast uplift is also known as a mastopexy. It is a surgical procedure that improves the shape of the breast and lifts the height of your nipples. It typically takes 2-2.5 hours and can be combined with implant-based breast enlargement surgery or fat transfer.

Am I a good candidate for Breast Uplift?

If you are concerned about sagging of your breasts or have different shaped breasts (asymmetry) then this procedure may be for you. Generally, to achieve optimal results safely, you need to be in good health, be a healthy weight and a non-smoker. If you are a smoker you will need to stop for at least 4 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after to help you heal. If you are happy with the size of your breasts in a bra then this suggests you are more suitable for a lift than a reduction.

    Safety

Breast uplift surgery is a common plastic surgery procedure and is generally safe.

As with all surgery, there are risks which we will discuss in detail during your consultation. The operation involves placing scars on the breast although these will fade with time. You should expect some numbness on your breast which can be permanent. It can cause breastfeeding to be difficult and sometime may not be possible at all.

    Before and during your consultation

What to expect at your consultation

Your surgeon will discuss why you want this procedure and what you expect to gain from it. You will also be asked about your general health. A breast examination will be performed to assess the health of your breasts and multiple measurements will be taken.

We will address your specific needs and concerns. The post-operative recovery period, benefits, alternatives to achieve your desired outcome and risks of surgery will also be discussed. If you are aged 40 or above and have not had a mammogram in the preceding 12 months you will be advised to have one prior to surgery.

    1. Have a look at our before and after photos.
    2. Please gather details of your medical history and any medications to bring with you. Medical problems and medication can have an impact on surgery and it is essential that we are thorough with this.

If you have recently breastfed, we will recommend postponing surgery until 6 months after you have stopped.

Bring a sports bra and tight-fitting top with you.  This will help us when we use the implant sizers.

    How breast uplift works

Mastopexy is performed using an incision around the nipple area which is often combined with an “anchor” shaped incision that extends down to and across the crease below your breast.

Your surgeon will remove excess skin, correct the size of your areola and alter the position of your nipple and breast tissue. You should expect your breasts to be around one cup size smaller after this procedure. Often patients will want to combine this procedure with a small reduction of the larger breast to help balance the size.

Absorbable stitches will be used to close your wounds leaving you with scars around the areola and usually an “anchor” scar on lower part of your breast. Dressings and a post-surgical bra will be applied.

    Recovery from breast uplift

Our team will monitor you while you wake up from anaesthetic and ensure that you are comfortable. Once you are awake you will usually be allowed home on the same day providing a responsible adult can collect you and stay with you.

We will ask you to leave all dressings in place and keep them dry during the first week after your operation. It is normal to have some mild pain, swelling, bruising and “oozing” from the wounds. You will be advised to take simple painkillers and wear the post-surgical bra 23 hours per day for 6 weeks.

For the first 2 weeks you can perform light activity but no exercise. After 2 weeks you can do light exercise but should avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for at least 6 weeks following your surgery.

It is normal for the breasts to look different to one another during the healing process, they will settle to their final appearance after a few months.
