Breast Implant Replacement

Breast implant replacement, also known as breast implant revision or exchange, is a surgical procedure performed to replace existing breast implants with new ones. There are various reasons why patients may choose to undergo breast implant replacement and these can include issues related to the original implants, changes in personal preferences, or addressing changes in breast appearance over time.

The common implant related reasons for replacement are rupture, capsular contracture (where the scar tissue around the implant tightens and causes shape change) or the implant shifting to the wrong position.

The surgery involves removing the existing implants, addressing any issues (such as capsule removal or adjustment) and placing new implants. Incisions may be made through existing scars or in new locations depending on the case. Large increases in implant size are more likely to need new incisions.
