macom® post-surgical bras are highly regarded and are considered a top choice for patients for the following reasons:
Medical-Grade Compression: macom® bras are designed to offer optimal compression, which is crucial for reducing swelling, improving circulation, and supporting the healing process after surgery. The compression is targeted and consistent, which helps prevent complications like fluid build-up.
Adjustable Sizing: Unlike many post-op bras that come in fixed sizes, macom® bras typically use expandable and adjustable technology, meaning one bra can accommodate changes in swelling and breast size as you heal. They often feature expandable cups and adjustable hook-and-eye fastenings, making them versatile and comfortable during all stages of recovery.
No Underwires: macom® bras are designed without underwires, which reduces the risk of irritation or pressure on surgical sites. This feature also makes them more comfortable, as underwires can dig into sensitive skin and disrupt healing.
Soft, High-Quality Materials: The materials used in macom® bras are soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic, which minimizes the risk of irritation and is gentle on sensitive post-surgical skin. Their fabrics are also stretchy, allowing for comfortable movement while providing the necessary support.
Seamless Design: The seamless construction of macom® bras helps reducefriction against the skin and incisions, which is important for preventing irritation andpromoting faster healing. This design also contributes to a smoother appearance under clothing.
Clinically Recommended: macom® bras are often recommended by surgeonsand medical professionals due to their effectiveness in providing the right level ofcompression and support after surgeries like breast augmentation, reduction, or reconstruction.
Front Fastening: Many macom® bras feature front-fastening designs, makingthem easy to put on and take off, which is essential for patients recovering fromsurgery who may have limited mobility or experience discomfort when reachingbehind their back.
Durability and Longevity: macom® bras are designed to be durable andwithstand the extended wear required during the post-operative recovery period. They maintain their shape and elasticity even after multiple washes, ensuring long-lasting support.
Breast Health Focus: macom® is a brand that focuses specifically on post-surgical and recovery garments. Their bras are engineered with the needs of post-operative patients in mind, offering a combination of support, comfort, and care that is critical during recovery.
Why do we recommend post operative compression bras?
Post-operative compression bras have a number of key benefits:
1: Pain management: compression bras are proven to reduce pain after breast surgery helping patients to move more easily and transition back to their daily routine.
2: Reduced swelling and inflammation: compression can help to decrease breast swelling. They may also improve blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.
3: Support for healing breast tissue: by stabilising the breast and breast implants (if used) during the healing phase, a compression bra might help to reduce the risk of certain complications.
Is a sports bra sufficient or do I need a post-surgical compression bra?
Sports bras and surgical compression bras serve different purposes and are designed with distinct features. A sports bra (designed to support breasts during exercise) is different to a surgical compression bra which is designed to be comfortable after surgery, reduce bleeding and swelling and stabilise the breasts to give the best surgical result.
Some obvious differences could be that the band underneath on a compression bra is wider and more supportive, there is more padding in the straps and most importantly access to get it on and off is easier. A sports bra will typically offer a lower level of compression and will be made of a stretchier fabric to allow for movement. In summary, while both types of bras provide support, sports bras are designed for physical activity, while surgical compression bras are specifically made for post-
operative recovery Selecting the correct size bra
Using the table on the macom® website you should order your compression bra based on your current band size e.g. 34 is a common size and that would be a “medium". The cups are expandable so don’t worry about the size of those, they will adjust to you. If you have any doubt about the size to order then order two different sizes and exchange the incorrect size. Most patients will order two bras for after surgery anyway to make washing them less of a problem. A compression bra should be tight but not so tight that it is uncomfortable. Typically it is worn for 23 hours a day for between 4 and 6 weeks after surgery depending on the procedure.
